Constructed between 2001 and 2004, our control tower rises up over 200 feet above Cap City.  We began operating in the current facility on April 25, 2004.  The base building sits at the foot of the control tower shaft.  The first floor of the base building houses our STARS equipped radar approach control, offices for both Airway Facilities and Air Traffic, and numerous rooms for equipment and storage.  Our facility is quite impressive to say the least!

TG is working local in the first weeks of operation of the tower.
So just how high up are we?  This is looking down at the intersection of International Gateway and Sawyer Rd. from the catwalk.

The tower cab has five positions.  We normally staff three of these.  The others are for future usage.  The diagram below shows the basic layout of the cab.

This is facing southwest.  The platform behind the fire extinguisher is a "riser" which can be used by controllers to get a better view of the runways and taxiways.  One of the 3 STARS TDWR displays hangs between Ground and Local West.
We are looking east in this view.   On the right is Runway 28L/10R, our longest runway.  The terminal building is in front of Local East.

TL is using the riser while working at the Local East position.

Looking northeast at the approach end of Runway 28R from the Local Control East position as an Embraer 145 departs.  The Delta Air Line gates are closest to the tower.
Local Control West provides the best view when we are on a 10R and 10L configuration.  Controllers can move over to this side of the tower and work from this position when on this operation.
