| One
of the most common questions we controllers are asked is, "just how does
one become an air traffic controller?" If you are interested
in becoming an air traffic controller then read on.
Chances are pretty good that if you ask ten air traffic controllers how they got into their careers you will hear ten different answers. This is common because of the specialized nature of our job. In essence there are three methods in which one can become an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration, the agency that runs the air traffic system in the United States. 1. Direct hiring (i.e.
"off the street")
For more information on the specifics of the above we recommend visiting the career page on our national website, as well as the documents on the FAA's ATCS-2152 page:
We also invite you to visit our facility if you are interested in becoming an air traffic controller. Nothing is like seeing everything happen in person and talking to controllers to see what the job is like. Contact us for a tour and please be sure that you coordinate through a NATCA member. See the ABOUT page for our contact information. Good luck! |
